Letters to my Children | The Beauty Around Us

Dear kiddos,

The other day, Jimmy, you asked – ASKED – if we could go to the sorghum field and take your picture before it’s harvested for the year.

Tricia, this morning, you came running back in the house before the bus came, “MOM – you’ve GOT to see the clouds!” The sun was just rising behind them and the most beautiful streams of light radiated all around.

It was stunning. (And I don’t have a picture because it lasted just a moment and we sat on the front step and enjoyed it.)

Several instances throughout our vacation one or the other of you would stop and say, “Mom, you NEED to take a picture of this.” Which I know is your way of sharing the wonderment of the place we were at.

I love looking at your photographs; to see the world from your perspective. I love seeing what catches your eye, whether it’s your favorite cousin in a silly pose or your favorite four-legged best friend.

I am so proud that you are becoming aware of the beauty that surrounds us every moment. My hope for you is to keep this with you always:

You are always surrounded by beauty. Sometimes you just need a different perspective to see it.

Love you,

Mom

  1. Such a cute perspective and I love how you tied that in with being able to see the world from your child’s point of view… and I really love that last quote you included (gonna copy that one down!). 🙂
