Belief

No matter the route you take on Christmas: the liturgical celebration of Jesus’ birth or the more commercial path of Santa Claus, the holiday is centered on belief.

While we are raising our children to have a strong belief in Christ and respect for his birth in a lowly manger in Bethlehem we also are big fans of Santa. I’ve found the threat of “Santa won’t come if you’re naughty” to be very effective this time of year.

Chris, our Elf on the Shelf, has been a big helper in our childrens’ belief this year. Just when our first grader was having “thoughts”, Chris came swooping in and carried those doubts right back to the North Pole.

Prior to this particular morning, there were no presents under the tree. Chris very nicely took care of wrapping and arranging all the packages under the tree. He must have very nearly got caught in the act as they found him hidden in the tree with scissors and tape in hand! What a helpful little elf!

Chris coerced Peef the Christmas Bear in to a card game last night. The boys awoke to find the card sharks mid-game on top of their dresser.

Chris has been fun. But, boy, this mom is running out of ideas. Is Christmas here yet?

  1. I love our Elf too – we named him Elfie. Couldn’t agree more – every morning is so fun with them finding him – but last night I was like – one more hiding place…. Cute pic’s – love the tape and wrapping paper!
