Kristi + Tom | Snowy Lake Engagement Session | South Dakota

My heart is so happy for these two special people to [finally] make it official! Both of our families have been anticipating my sister-in-law Kristi’s and Tom’s engagement for some time. After a Christmas engagement, they wanted a fresh winter setting for photos. Don’t let their winter casual outfits deceive you – they picked one of the coldest days of the year. Patricia and I traveled to capture a few images around their farm. They have been working hard on the cutest lake cabin near their farm and it was fun to incorporate it in to the images.

We are all excited for their beautiful Black Hills wedding early this summer!

[Behind the scenes story] Ace, Kristi and Tom’s dog, LOVES to catch snowballs. It’s his favorite game in the winter. He goes nuts for it! Kristi and I didn’t fully think this shot through and nearly lost her engagement ring! She tightly packed the snow in her hands and I placed the ring “just so” in the middle…before I raised my camera to get a shot, Ace swooped in to take a big bite of snowball. PANIC!!!!! Luckily, Ace didn’t ingest the ring. It dropped straight down into the 6 inches of fresh snow, leaving a hole to trail it. Tom grabbed Ace and Kristi recovered the ring quickly.
