The last of the Christmas presents

Today, my kids shoveled snow for the first time this winter. That is an amazing fact for January in South Dakota. Usually by this date, the zest for shoveling is buried beneath feet of cold, icy snowbanks. The kiddos were quite excited when I brought out little shovels. (They were supposed to have been Christmas presents – but who’s excited about a shovel when there’s no snow?)

It still didn’t take too long for the newness to wear off. Even a two-year-old can find something better to do than shovel snow. Next time, I’ll make sure the kitties aren’t around when I want to get a little work out of the kids.
