Wesley packed a punch

We enjoyed our first 70º+ weather last weekend. Thoroughly ENJOYED the warmth…as we prepared for a heavily forecasted blizzard dubbed Winter Storm Wesley.

Monday was beautiful. By Tuesday, it was raining. Thunder snow woke us up about 3:30 Wednesday morning by the time we all headed out to help Brady with the last of the storm prep, we had a good 6 inches on the ground.

By Thursday evening, around two feet of heavy, wet snow had fallen; judged by a very few areas protected from the wind. The Weather Channel had the best recap of how the storm affected the country that I have seen: https://weather.com/storms/winter/news/2019-04-08-winter-storm-wesley-plains-blizzard-april

I didn’t take many pictures as when I did venture out, that wasn’t the top of my concerns. Most of the images and video below are quick snaps from my iPhone.

Jacob and Jimmy herding calves Wednesday morning. The mamas, knowing where we were putting them, ducked right into the pen with the bedded barn. These new babies needed a bit more oversight.
We brought all the cows yet to calve in from the pasture to weather the storm in freshly bedded straw behind the protection of trees. Except this mama above. She had began calving so we left her be. After we got the pairs and the cows situated, Jimmy and I headed back out to the pasture to grab this last calf. Mom followed the sled right in to the warm barn. (video below)

40+ MPH winds caused icicles to freeze at an angle.
